Studies demonstrate that clinical nurses understand the benefits of research, but currently, it takes one to two decades to incorporate findings into practice. One reported barrier is not involving staff nurses in the research process. A unit-based study measuring patient activity after removal of temporary pacing wires was designed and conducted by staff nurses and a protocol was developed. This quantitative descriptive study evaluated if nurses who were involved in unit-based research found the results relevant and integrated the evidence-based protocols into their clinical practice. Also, it examined if education or experience affected the importance of implementation. The study was supported by The Model for Evidence-based Practice. Fifty-two staff nurses were surveyed using a questionnaire. Simple and descriptive statistics revealed involvement in a unit-based study did increase the importance of evidenced-based research and the integration of the results into clinical practice.
